cheers that toast

why do people toast their drinks?
it can seen on any special occasions, most commonly weddings still. but it is the same as 'cheers'?
apparently not... even though both involves clicking of glasses, and i didn't really know the difference. just saying the sentence made me realise its not the same. toast is an expression of honour and goodwill, it usually comes with a speech of congratulation, good wishes and remembrance. that is why it's only mention on more important occasions. like... the best-man is gonna make a toast for the new couple, long live or all the best to somebody/something. whereas 'cheersing' someone, is a way of greeting, saying thanks and welcome. it's uses is more of gratitude and acknowledgement. like... thanks for that, nice to meet you or we are finally at our holiday! cheers! anyway, the picture is taken during a farewell gathering for a friend going abroad. we made a toast for him, but we said 'cheers'. any other day before this, it wouldn't sound wrong to me. i wonder does anybody else 'cheers' like we did.

things you can do with broomsticks

there's something about the ending off a shift that is so mystical, it lifts our spirit up like magic. before ending the 24 hour duty off, we are needed to give our station a clean-up as handing over procedure to the next rotation. usually this is the time we are really happy that we try to do it very quickly, but it doesn't mean we can leave immediately. we still need to wait for the inspection to clear, and we leave at the instructed timing. so what do we do in the mean time? magic... posing for magic at least. there was this social network trend  which is to sit on a broom and fly. there's countless times that we goof around outside our orders and duties, but i thought this was a nicely taken hogwarts inspired shot.

roses are red... so is my baju

it was that time of the year again, though it's not related to me directly. went to Paya Lebar to shop for baju kurong with my extended family, and shopped for one myself. we plan to visit my god-sis at her parents' house and we decided to get the same colour theme which is red, favourite colour... like chinese new year as well, it's loaded with treats and snacks that is sure to keep the mouth busy other than talking. i wasted no time from that too. before the visit when i was about leave my house, my dad thought i was going for prayers. for some reasons i don't understand, he kept thinking i might be seeing a malay girl. but really i just have a multi-racial collective of good friends.

The mask in front of the face

Here's a picture of the LF crew doing an exercise at the fire post, that is conducted after night lecture. yes we do have night lectures to keep our mind active, and knowledge of rescue procedures "updated". (speaking of which, i think i'm quite "rusty" now). The exercise requires us to don our training chemical agent suits, with helmet and masks. the actual suits are saved for the real thing. we do series of sets of things like push ups, sit ups etc. this process is to train us to acclimatize to the suit for a set period like we would if there was an incident. the mask is to further hone us in performing tasks in extreme breathing conditions. if you wonder where all the calories from the donuts go... well...

The Reason

Ok here's the reason why I'm so interested in Italy... Ok not the full reason but this game was the first step. The protagnist is a man in the present time named Desmond, being abducted away by an organization built by the Templars, tricked into thinking they are good and that he's helping them for a great cause. The story depicts that technology is so advance that it can access the memory of ancestors through DNA with a chair-like machine. Desmond's ancestor was a nobleman from Florence during the Renaissance period named Ezio, who discover the family's heritage of assassins and became one upon vengeance. The unjust hanging of Ezio's father and 2 brothers had driven a vendetta in him. A case of bad blood which would later unfold more twisted truths and secrets behind not just the killing of his family, secrets the organization are looking for. the game revolves around Florence, Tuscany and Venice. The sequels moved toward Rome and the middle east.
Apart from the blood and gore, the story has good plot and it's based off actual historical figures. Good entertainment and history lessons all in one game.

one island, 2 worlds' difference

On my first visit to Legoland, I was surprised by how they actually built more stuff about Singapore than other places. this picture show some of the locales in Singapore which most should find familiar, the Singapore Flyer, the city areas, the Singapore River and the Keppel Harbour at the back. they had some more Singapore related stuff on the other side, but I couldn't capture all in one picture. it's interesting and funny at the same time, i actually find it contradicting to the actual condition in Singapore. though they got the structures correct, it seems way too peaceful compared to the reality, I'm almost envious. how so?? just look at the traffic and the Lego people. if only Singapore isn't as hectic as this, they probably got this part right too.
